KITE DAY
- MARINA SOUTH PADANG,
SINGAPORE
10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Beautiful weather and strong wind -- what more could you want ? It was good to see so many members enjoying themselves, including the police (we'll tell you about that later).
In the morning our friends from the Kite Fighting Enthusiasts Club, Singapore held a competition for trophies donated by SKA, while our members flew everything they had. Catching the eye was Ng's red Cody, See Lian's dragon, Poh Wah's roller and rokkaku, Robert's bird train and Shakib's Tri-D and parafoil.
The main event however was the 30m arch. It would not fly from fixed moorings but it flew well when held by three members on each end -- it needs more for comfort. (Photo below from Zaobao website)
For the kite fighting competition, trophies were awarded to:
1st | -- | Vincent Tan |
2nd | -- | Jason Foo |
3rd | -- | Tay Pong Sai |
In SKA's Most Outstanding Kite competition, trophies and cash prizes were awarded to:
1st Tan See Liang | -- | for
his Chinese dragon which flew most of the day attracting much attention. |
2nd Tan Poh Wah | -- | for a
small but interesting multi-colored rokkaku, and for a large roller (an early casualty) |
3rd Ng Thang Eng | -- | for his large, red Cody. |
The police story? When the kite fighters were holding their competition, a member of the public drifted too close and was inadvertently cut down. He raged about the loss of his $1.20 kite and was given two fighters to replace it. But he was not happy and called the police who sent a patrol car. For an hour or more he went on about the loss of his kite, even a second patrol car was sent to back up the first one: Wow! Kite flying is meant to make friends, not enemies.
